And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you before death comes to one of you, and he says: "My Lord! If only You would give me respite for a little while (i.e. return to the worldly life), then I should giveSadaqah (i.e. Zakât ) of my wealth, and be among the righteous [i.e. perform Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) and other good deeds].

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 10) ➊ For the explanation of {وَ اَنْفِقُوْا مِنْ مَّا رَزَقْنٰكُمْ … : ’’ مِنْ مَّا رَزَقْنٰكُمْ ‘‘}, see the commentary of the third verse of Surah Al-Baqarah. In order to remain safe from hypocrisy, it is commanded to spend as much as possible from the blessings granted by Allah before death.
{ مِنْ قَبْلِ اَنْ يَّاْتِيَ اَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ فَيَقُوْلَ … :} That is, at the time of death, making this supplication and wish is useless; it is the work of a wise person to take advantage of the respite and prepare provisions for the Hereafter before death. See Surah Ibrahim (44) and Surah Al-Mu’minun (99, 100).
{فَاَصَّدَّقَ وَ اَكُنْ مِّنَ الصّٰلِحِيْنَ:’’ فَاَصَّدَّقَ ‘‘} In the original, it is {’’فَأَتَصَدَّقُ‘‘}; it is in the accusative case because it is in response to {’’ لَوْ لَاۤ ‘‘}, which is for exhortation and contains the meaning of request and condition, and it is preceded by "fa" after which {’’أَنْ‘‘} (nasiba) is implied, and {’’ اَكُنْ ‘‘} is in the jussive case because it is conjoined to the position of the answer to the condition, and "fa" does not come before it. Thus, the original statement is as follows: {’’رَبِّ أَخِّرْنِيْ إِلٰی أَجَلٍ قَرِيْبٍ فَإِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِيْ أَتَصَدَّقْ وَ أَكُنْ مِّنَ الصَّالِحِيْنَ۔‘‘}
