Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 7) ➊ {مَاسَمِعْنَابِهٰذَافِيالْمِلَّةِالْاٰخِرَةِ:} By the last community is meant their near ancestors, because the original religion of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was established on monotheism. It was ‘Amr bin Luhayy Khuza‘i who popularized idol worship among the Arabs, to the extent that even in the Ka‘bah, arrows for divination were placed in the hands of the statues of Ibrahim and Isma‘il (peace be upon them). Shah ‘Abd al-Qadir writes: “By the recent religion (last community) they mean their forefathers, that is, we have heard that the earlier people used to say such things, but our elders did not say so.” (Mawduh) Some commentators have said that by the last community is meant the Christians, because before you (the Prophet ﷺ), the last prophet to come was ‘Isa (peace be upon him), meaning we have not heard about monotheism among the Christians either, rather they also believe in three gods. ➋ { اِنْهٰذَاۤاِلَّااخْتِلَاقٌ : ’’ اخْتِلَاقٌ ‘‘} The verbal noun here is used in the sense of the passive participle for emphasis, meaning this is merely a fabricated statement.
