Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 23) ➊ {اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يُدْخِلُ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا … : ’’ يُحَلَّوْنَ ‘‘ ’’حَلَّي يُحَلِّيْ تَحْلِيَةً‘‘} is the passive imperfect verb from (تفعیل). From this comes {’’حِلْيَةٌ‘‘} meaning jewelry. {’’ اَسَاوِرَ ‘‘ ’’أَسْوِرَةٌ‘‘} is the plural of {’’ سِوَارٌ ‘‘}, which itself is the plural of {’’ مِنْ اَسَاوِرَ ‘‘}. The plural of the plural is used to express the abundance and beauty of these bangles. In {’’ مِنْ اَسَاوِرَ ‘‘}, {’’ مِنْ ‘‘} is for partiality, meaning some bangles will be of gold and pearls, and some will be such that you do not know, as it is said: «{ فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَّاۤ اُخْفِيَ لَهُمْ مِّنْ قُرَّةِ اَعْيُنٍ [ السجدۃ : ۱۷ ] "So no soul knows what has been hidden for them of comfort for eyes." After mentioning the punishment of {’’ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا ‘‘} among the contending groups regarding the oneness of the Lord, the reward of {’’ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا ‘‘} is being mentioned. Its beginning is with the emphatic particle {’’ اِنَّ ‘‘}, and for every punishment of the disbelievers, there is mention of some blessing for the believers. Thus, it is in contrast to {’’ يُدْخِلُ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا ‘‘ ، ’’ كُلَّمَاۤ اَرَادُوْۤا اَنْ يَّخْرُجُوْا مِنْهَا ‘‘}. It is in contrast to {’’ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُ ‘‘، ’’يُصَبُّ مِنْ فَوْقِ رُءُوْسِهِمُ الْحَمِيْمُ ‘‘}. It is in contrast to {’’ وَ لِبَاسُهُمْ فِيْهَا حَرِيْرٌ ‘‘ ، ’’ قُطِّعَتْ لَهُمْ ثِيَابٌ ‘‘}. It is in contrast to {’’ يُحَلَّوْنَ فِيْهَا مِنْ اَسَاوِرَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ ‘‘، ’’ وَ لَهُمْ مَّقَامِعُ مِنْ حَدِيْدٍ ‘‘}. And it is in contrast to {’’ وَ هُدُوْۤا اِلَى الطَّيِّبِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ ‘‘، ’’ وَ ذُوْقُوْا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيْقِ ‘‘}, because for the people of Paradise, the good word is "Peace," while for the people of Hell, the evil word is "Taste the punishment of burning."

➋ For women, gold and pearl jewelry is well-known, as for men, in previous times, kings and great chiefs used to wear bangles and pearls as adornment and to display their grandeur. The purpose of this verse is to state that the believers will be dressed in royal garments in Paradise. See also Surah Al-Kahf (31).

➌ By { وَ لِبَاسُهُمْ فِيْهَا حَرِيْرٌ: ’’ حَرِيْرٌ ‘‘} is meant pure silk, the use of which is forbidden for men in this world. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: [ مَنْ لَبِسَ الْحَرِيْرَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَلَنْ يَلْبَسَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ ] [ بخاري، اللباس، باب لبس الحریر للرجال…:۵۸۳۲۔ مسلم:۷۳] "Whoever wears silk in this world will never wear it in the Hereafter."
