Surah Saad (38) — Ayah 7

مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِى ٱلْمِلَّةِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ ﴿7﴾
"We have not heard (the like) of this in the religion of these later days (i.e. Christianity). This is nothing but an invention! [Tafsir Al-Qurtubi]
مَا Not
سَمِعْنَا samiʿ'nā we heard
بِهَـٰذَا bihādhā of this
فِى in
ٱلْمِلَّةِ l-milati the religion
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ l-ākhirati the last

هَـٰذَآ hādhā (is) this
إِلَّا illā but
ٱخْتِلَـٰقٌ ikh'tilāqun a fabrication

7. 1 By the recent religion is meant either their religion of the Quraysh, or the religion of the Christians; that is, regarding this monotheism which he is inviting to, we have not heard of it in any religion.
7. 2 That is, this monotheism is only his own fabrication, otherwise even in Christianity, others have been acknowledged as partners with Allah in divinity.
