Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

125. 1 The Muslims set out towards Badr to raid the caravan of the Quraysh, which was almost unarmed. But by the time they reached Badr, they learned that a massive army of the polytheists, full of rage and fervor, was coming from Mecca. Upon hearing this, a mixture of anxiety, concern, and zeal for battle spread among the ranks of the Muslims, and they supplicated and pleaded to their Lord, the Exalted. In response, Allah gave them glad tidings of first one thousand, then three thousand angels being sent down, and further promised that if you remain steadfast and mindful of Allah, and the fervor and rage of the polytheists did not persist. (Even before reaching Badr, discord broke out among them; one group returned to Mecca, and among those who came to Badr, most of the leaders were of the opinion that there should be no fighting.) Therefore, as per the glad tidings, three thousand angels were sent down, and there was no need to complete the number to five thousand, though some commentators say that this number was completed.

125. 2 That is, they will have a specific sign for identification.
