Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
98. 1. That is, although this wall has been made very strong, and it is not possible for Yajuj and Majuj to come over it by climbing and making a hole in it, but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will break it into pieces and level it with the ground. By this promise is meant the appearance of Yajuj and Majuj near the Day of Judgment, as mentioned in the hadiths. For example, in one hadith, the Prophet ﷺ described a small hole in this wall as an indication of the nearness of the tribulation (Sahih Bukhari, number 3346 and Muslim, number 228). In another hadith, it is mentioned that every day they dig this wall and then leave it for the next day, but when Allah wills for them to come out, then they will say, "Tomorrow, insha Allah, we will dig it," and the next day they will succeed in coming out of it. They will spread corruption in the land until people will be forced to take refuge in fortresses. They will shoot arrows towards the sky, which will return blood-stained. Eventually, Allah will create a worm at the back of their necks, by which they will be destroyed. In Sahih Muslim, in the narration of Nawwas bin Sam'an, it is clarified that the appearance of Yajuj and Majuj will occur after the descent of Isa (peace be upon him) and in his presence. This refutes those who say that the attack of the Tatars on the Muslims, or the Mongol Turks among whom was Genghis, or the Russian or Chinese nations are the Yajuj and Majuj whose appearance has already occurred, or that the Western nations are their manifestation because of their dominance and control over the whole world. All these statements are wrong because the dominance referred to is not political dominance, but that temporary dominance of killing, bloodshed, and corruption for which the Muslims will not have the power to resist. However, then, due to an epidemic, all of them will perish at once.
