(Ayah 59){ قَالَمَوْعِدُكُمْيَوْمُالزِّيْنَةِ …: ’’ ضُحًى ‘‘} That time when, after the rising of the sun, its heat begins. Musa (peace be upon him) himself wanted that as many people as possible should gather, so that the message of truth could reach them and they could witness the divine miracles and the victory of truth with their own eyes. Thus, {’’ يَوْمُالزِّيْنَةِ ‘‘} and the time of noon was fixed, so that people would be free due to the holiday and by noon every person from all regions could easily arrive, the daylight would be at its maximum, and if the contest became prolonged, there would be a long time available until sunset. {’’ يَوْمُالزِّيْنَةِ ‘‘ } was a well-known day among the Egyptians; it was celebrated on the day when the flooding of the Nile reached its peak and the water spread far and wide, after which the sowing of crops would begin. Ibn Ashur (may Allah have mercy on him) has estimated this to be the fifteenth of September. For details, see "Al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir." Musa (peace be upon him) did not mention the place, from which it is understood that in {’’ يَوْمُالزِّيْنَةِ ‘‘} it was customary for all people to gather at a particular place to celebrate, just as governments have built large stadiums, so after fixing the day of adornment and the time, there was no need to mention the place.

Moses replied, "The appointment [41] is for the Day of the Festival, and let the people be assembled at mid-morning."
[41] The Contest of the Magicians and Two Conditions of Musa (peace be upon him):
Pharaoh’s challenge was, in fact, the very desire of Musa’s heart. However, arranging such a contest in an open field was beyond his means. When Pharaoh issued the challenge, he (Musa) considered it a great opportunity and immediately accepted it. Along with this, he also stated two things or conditions. First, that the contest should not only be in an open field but should also take place on the day of the annual festival, when people from all around gather in the capital to watch the festivities, so that as many people as possible could witness the contest. Second, that the contest should be held in the clear daylight, at the time of forenoon, so that there would be no doubt or suspicion for the people in witnessing the contest and drawing conclusions from it.
