وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ ﴿80﴾
And verily, the dwellers of Al-Hijr (the rocky tract) denied the Messengers.
وَلَقَدْ walaqad And certainly
كَذَّبَ kadhaba denied
أَصْحَـٰبُ aṣḥābu (the) companions
ٱلْحِجْرِ l-ḥij'ri (of) the Rocky Tract
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ l-mur'salīna the Messengers

(Ayah80) ➊ {وَ لَقَدْ كَذَّبَ اَصْحٰبُ الْحِجْرِ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ : ’’ الْحِجْرِ ‘‘} actually refers to a place that is surrounded by stones, just as Hatim is also called Hijr. The meaning of { ’’حَجَرَ يَحْجُرُ‘‘} is also to prevent, so {’’ الْحِجْرِ ‘‘} is the place where the coming and going of ordinary people is forbidden. This is the fourth story in this Surah. {’’ الْحِجْرِ ‘‘} is a place between Syria and Madinah Munawwarah, which was the center of the people of Thamud, the nation of Salih (peace be upon him). This place is located on the road from Khaybar to Tabuk and is now famous by the name "Mada'in Salih." This area is located a few miles from { ’’العُلاء‘‘}. The caravans that travel from Hijaz to Syria must pass through here, and it is also a station on the railway line that, during the time of the Turks, used to go from Madinah to Damascus. {الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ :} Since denying one messenger is like denying all, it is said about them that they denied the messengers. (Ruh al-Ma'ani)

80. 1. The settlements of the people of Thamud, the nation of Prophet Salih (عليه السلام), were called (اَصْحٰبُ الْحِـجْرِ) 15. Al-Hijr:80) (the dwellers of Al-Hijr). This settlement was located between Madinah and Tabuk. They denied their prophet, Prophet Salih (عليه السلام). But here Allah Almighty said, "They denied the messengers," because denying one messenger is just like denying all the messengers.

80. And the people of the Valley of Hijr [42] also denied the messengers.

[42] By the people of the Valley of Hijr is meant the nation of Thamud, to whom Salih ؑ was sent. And here, where mention is made of several messengers instead of one, it is because the fundamental teachings of all messengers have been the same; therefore, denying one messenger is tantamount to denying all messengers.
