Hadith Commentary:

One branch of contemporary medicine is treatment with water, which is quite progressive. Our Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was sent by Allah the Exalted as a treasure of all beneficial sciences. Thus, the principles presented by him in the field of medicine are so comprehensive that no intelligent person can deny them. (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)

Hadith Commentary:
Some commentators have written that what is meant by this hadith is to give water in charity on behalf of the sick person, and through this Allah, the Exalted, grants the patient recovery.
Although it is also possible to interpret it as: when arrangements are made to quench the thirst of a thirsty person with water, then Allah, the Exalted, will quench the intensity of fever from the patient. However, what is immediately understood from the hadith is that water should be used on the body of the patient. Nevertheless, the point about giving charity can be derived from the hadith.
And Allah knows best. (Fath al-Bari: 10/219)

Benefits and Issues:

➊ Along with medicine, supplication (dua) is also necessary.

➋ Healing (shifa) should be sought only from Allah.

➌ In matters that are within the domain of human capability, help can be sought from people only to the extent that assistance is possible in the realm of means; providing help beyond the means is an attribute of Allah alone.

➍ The physician can provide treatment and give medicine, but it is Allah alone who grants healing.
