Hadith 1692

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ، قَالَ : " كَانَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دِرْعَانِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ، فَنَهَضَ إِلَى الصَّخْرَةِ فَلَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ ، فَأَقْعَدَ طَلْحَةَ تَحْتَهُ ، فَصَعِدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَوَى عَلَى الصَّخْرَةِ " ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " أَوْجَبَ طَلْحَةُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَاب ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ، وَالسَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ ، لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق .
Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: On the day of the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was wearing two coats of armor __QUR_N__, he tried to climb a rock, but could not do so. He made Talhah bin Ubaidullah sit beneath him, then he climbed upon him until he stood upright on the rock. Zubair says: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Talhah has made Paradise obligatory (for himself) by his deed." __REF_N__ Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- This hadith is Hasan Gharib; we know it only through the narration of Muhammad bin Ishaq,
2- In this chapter, there are also ahadith from Safwan bin Umayyah and Sa'ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with them both).

The fact that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) wore two coats of mail is not contrary to reliance (tawakkul) and submission and contentment (taslim wa rida).
Rather, adopting means and resources is entirely in accordance with reliance upon Allah and contentment with His decree.

That is, by virtue of this act of devotion and self-sacrifice, Talhah radi Allahu anhu was deemed deserving of Paradise,
meaning that in this very world, he received the glad tidings of Paradise from the blessed tongue of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
