Hadith 386
وَسَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ ، عَنْ نُبَيْشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّا كُنَّا نَنْهَاكُمْ عَنْ لُحُومِهَا فَوْقَ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ حَتَّى يَسَعَكُمْ فَكُلُوا وَادَّخِرُوا أَلا إِنَّ هَذِهِ الأَيَّامَ أَيَّامُ أَكْلٍ وَشُرْبٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Nabeesha (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We had forbidden you from benefiting from the meat of sacrificial animals for more than three days, until Allah granted you financial ease. Now eat, store, and beware, these are the days of eating and drinking."
Hadith 387
وَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْوَهَّابِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ سَعِيدٍ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ يُحَدِّثُ فِي مَسْجِدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ : " لَتَرْكَبُنَّ سُنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ حُلْوَهَا وَمُرَّهَا " .
Umar bin Hakam, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, delivering a sermon in Masjid Nabawi, saying: "You will surely follow in the footsteps of the previous nations, whether good or bad."
Hadith 388
وَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُؤَمَّلٍ الْمَخْزُومِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَيْصِنٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " لَمْ يَزَلْ أَمْرُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مُسْتَقِيمًا حَتَّى حَدَّثَ فِيهِمُ الْمُوَلَّدُونَ أَبْنَاءُ سَبَايَا الأُمَمِ فَقَالُوا فِيهِمْ بِالرَّأْيِ فَضَلُّوا وَأَضَلُّوا .
Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the affairs of the Children of Israel remained correct until children were born to them from slave women of other nations. When (the leadership of religion came into the hands of this generation), they began to make rulings based on their own opinions; they themselves went astray and led others astray as well.
Hadith 389
وَسَمِعْتُ سُفْيَانَ بْنَ عُيَيْنَةَ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سِنَانٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ ، قَالَ : مَرَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَجَرَةٍ يُعَلِّقُ بِهَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ أَسْلِحَتَهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهَا : ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ ، فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اجْعَلْ لَنَا ذَاتَ أَنْوَاطٍ كَمَا لَهُمْ ذَاتُ أَنْوَاطٍ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَذَا كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ : اجْعَلْ لَنَا إِلَهًا كَمَا لَهُمُ آلِهَةٌ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid Al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) that we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when we passed by a tree called Dhat Anwat, upon which the polytheists used to hang their weapons for seeking blessings. So we said, "O Messenger of Allah, appoint for us a Dhat Anwat as they have a Dhat Anwat." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have said just as the Children of Israel said to Musa (peace be upon him): 'Make for us a god just as they have gods.'"
Hadith 390
سَمِعْتُ سَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ سَعِيدٍ ، يَقُولُ : " وَهُمْ يُعْطُونَ فِي دِيَةِ الْمُسْلِمِ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ أَلْفَيْ شَاةٍ " .
Yahya bin Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I found people giving the blood money (diyah) of a Muslim as two thousand goats.
Hadith 391
: أَدْرَكْتُ النَّاسَ وَسَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ يَحْيَى بْنَ سَعِيدٍ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فِي الدِّيَةِ : " عَلَى أَهْلِ الشَّاءِ الشَّاءُ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Shu'aib (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding blood money: "Blood money will be taken from the owners of goats in the form of goats."
Hadith 392
وَسَمِعْتُ وَسَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرْتُ لِلْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ بَيْعًا كُنَّا نَبِيعُهُ لِيَتِيمٍ كَانَ فِي حِجْرِي , كُنَّا نَبِيعُ مِنَ الرَّجُلِ الطَّعَامَ وَالزَّيْتَ إِلَى أَجْلٍ مُسَمًّى بِسِعْرٍ مَعْلُومٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْنَا مِنْ بَيْعِهِ ذَهَبَ رَجُلٌ فَاشْتَرَى لَهُ الطَّعَامَ وَالْوَدَكَ فَوَفَّاهُ إِيَّاهُ فَقَالَ الْقَاسِمُ : " مَا كُنَّا نَرَى بِهَذَا بَأْسًا حَتَّى نَهَى عَنْهُ الأَمِيرُ فَإِذْ نَهَى عَنْهُ فَلا أُحِبُّهُ .
Yahya bin Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I mentioned to Qasim bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) a transaction that we used to do for the sake of an orphan who was under my care. We would make a deal for food and oil for a fixed period and a known price. After the deal was settled, the man would go and bring the required food and oil, and he would deliver the full amount as agreed. Qasim (may Allah have mercy on him) said, "We did not see any harm in this transaction until the governor of Madinah forbade it. So, when the governor has forbidden it, I do not like to do this transaction."
Hadith 393
وَسَمِعْتُ وَسَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَوْنٍ الأَعْوَرِ ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَ أَنَّ أَبَا الدَّرْدَاءِ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " مَا بِتُّ مِنْ لَيْلَةٍ فِي الأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحْتُ لَمْ يَرْمِنِي النَّاسُ فِيهَا بِدَاهِيَةٍ إِلا رَأَيْتُ عَلَيَّ مِنَ اللَّهِ نِعْمَةً " .
It is narrated from Abu Awn (may Allah have mercy on him) that Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "Whatever night I spent on the face of the earth, if I reached the morning in such a state that people did not find any harshness in me, (then in such a state) I found Allah's blessing upon myself."
Hadith 394
وَسَمِعْتُ وَسَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ سورة النساء آية 24 قَالَ : " سَبَايَا كَانَ لَهُنَّ أَزْوَاجٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْبَيْنَ فَأُحْلِلْنَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), in the explanation of this Divine statement: ﴿وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ﴾ [سورة النساء : 24] “And (forbidden to you are) married women except those whom your right hands possess,” says that these women were married, their husbands were present before they were taken captive in war, but when they became slave women, then (after ensuring they are not pregnant) it is lawful for Muslims to marry or have intercourse with them.
Hadith 395
سَمِعْتُ سَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ , عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ ، " أَنَّهُ أَكَلَ سَمَكًا طَافِيًا " .
It is narrated from Abu Iyas Muawiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) ate a swollen fish. (i.e., dead)
Hadith 396
سَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرُوا أَبْنَاءَهُمْ ، فَقَالُوا : أَبْنَاؤُنَا خَيْرٌ مِنَّا وَلِدُوا فِي الإِسْلامِ وَلَمْ يُشْرِكُوا بِاللَّهِ سَاعَةً قَطُّ ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَمْ يَكُنْ لِيَبْعَثَنِي إِلا فِي خَيْرِ أُمَّتِي نَحْنُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبْنَائِنَا وَأَبْنَاؤُنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَبْنَاءُ أَبْنَائِنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ " .
It is narrated from Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mentioned their sons and said, "Our sons are better than us; they were born in Islam and did not associate anything with Allah at all." When this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he said: "Allah Almighty has sent me to the best of the Ummah. We are better than our sons, and our sons are better than our grandsons, and our grandsons are better than their sons."
Hadith 397
سَمِعْتُ الثَّقَفِيَّ ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ تَمْرٌ وَشَعِيرٌ مِنْ بَعْضِ الْقُرَى وَأَنَّ أُسَيْدَ بْنَ الْحُضَيْرِ قَالَ لَهُ أَهْلُ بَيْتَيْنِ مِنْ بَنِي ظُفُرَ : اذْكُرْ حَاجَتَنَا لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَنَّ أُسَيْدَ بْنَ الْحُضَيْرِ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَوَجَدَ مَعَهُ قَوْمًا وَأَنَّهُ حَنَا عَلَيْهِ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ حَاجَةَ أَهْلِ بَيْتَيْنِ مِنْ بَنِي ظُفُرَ ، وَأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لِكُلِّ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ وَسْقٌ مِنْ تَمْرٍ وَشَطْرٌ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ " ، فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ عَنَّا خَيْرًا . قَالَ يَحْيَى : فَزَعَمَ مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " وَأَنْتُمْ فَجَزَاكُمُ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا يَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ فَإِنَّكُمْ أَعِفَّةٌ صُبُرٌ وَإِنَّكُمْ سَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي أَثَرَةً فِي الأَمْرِ وَالْقَسْمِ فَاصْبِرُوا حَتَّى تَلْقَوْنِي " .
It is narrated from Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith Tamimi (may Allah have mercy on him) that dates and barley came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from some villages. The two houses of Banu Zufar said to Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) to mention their needs to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while some people were sitting with him. Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) approached and leaned in to mention the need of Banu Zufar. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Each house will be given one wasq of dates and one wasq of barley." Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! May Allah reward you. Yahya (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith (may Allah have mercy on him) thinks that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said: "O Ansar! May Allah reward you with goodness. You are patient people. After me, you will see that in matters and distribution, others will be given preference over you. Remain patient until you meet me."
