Abu Ubaid, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar (may Allah have mercy on him), narrates that he participated in the Eid prayer with Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He (Umar) first led the prayer and then delivered the sermon and said: "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade fasting on these two days—Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The day of Fitr is the day of breaking the fasts, and on the day of Adha, eat from your sacrifice."

Abu Ubaidah, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I had the honor of offering the Eid prayer with Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, came, led the prayer, then turned towards the people and delivered a sermon and said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden fasting on these two days: one is the day when you complete your fasts, and the other is the day when you eat the meat of sacrifice." Abu Ubaidah says: I participated in the Eid prayer with Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him. He came, led the prayer, then turned towards the people and delivered a sermon and said: "Today, two Eids have come together (Jumu'ah and Eid). Whoever has come from afar and wants to offer Jumu'ah as well, let him wait in Madinah, and whoever wants to return may do so; I give him permission." Abu Ubaidah says: Then I offered the Eid prayer with Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, was also present. Sayyiduna Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, came, led the prayer, then turned back and delivered a sermon.
