Hadith 3285

Sayyiduna Amr bin Dinar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) accepted Islam, and Abu al-As was captured and then embraced Islam, so their marriage remained intact."

Brief Explanation
Benefit: Hadith 2108 is, in fact, a supporting and further clarifying narration of Hadith 2107, in which the continuation of the marriage between Sayyidah Zaynab, daughter of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, and her husband Abu al-As ibn al-Rabi‘ after their acceptance of Islam is presented as a historical and biographical incident. This narration is an extremely important evidentiary source in Islamic jurisprudence regarding the rulings of marriage in the case of difference of religion.

This narration is authentic in its chain of transmission, and is a clear practical example based on the Prophetic biography (sirah), from which it is understood that: if the woman accepts Islam first and the husband later, the original marriage can remain intact; a new marriage contract or renewal of the dower (mahr) is not necessary, provided that the woman has not entered into another marriage.
