Hadith 3189

Yahya bin Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave Mu'adh Aba Halimah a respite of one year for not having intercourse with his wife. When he was unable to do so, he separated the two.

Brief Explanation
Explanation: Sa'id ibn Mansur → Hushaym → Yahya ibn Sa'id → Incident
Hushaym ibn Bashir: trustworthy (thiqqah), reliable (thabt)
Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari: trustworthy (thiqqah), agreed upon
The incident is mursal hukmi, because the name of the Companion (sahabi) is not mentioned, but it is a juristic practice (fiqhi 'amal) and narrated by an authoritative Successor (tabi'i).
The chain is sound (sanad jayyid), and the narration (athar) is established.
This very narration is a detailed example of that well-known case of 'Umar which was mentioned above. This narration consists of a practical judicial ruling (qada), which the jurists (fuqaha) present as evidence.
