Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A she-camel named ‘Adhba’ belonged to a man from Banu Aqil. That man was taken captive, and his she-camel ‘Adhba’ was also taken captive along with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him while he was riding a donkey covered with a cloth. The man said, “O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! On what basis have you captured me and for what reason have you captured ‘Adhba’, when I am a Muslim?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, “If you are saying this, then you are the master of your affair (i.e., you are free) and you will attain complete success.” The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left, and the man (from behind) called out, “O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), I am hungry, give me something to eat, I am thirsty, give me something to drink.” So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “This is the provision for your need.” Then the man was released in exchange for the ransom of two men. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept the she-camel named ‘Adhba’ for his own riding, because she used to travel swiftly. Once, some polytheists raided a part of Madinah at night and took a Muslim woman captive. The polytheists made their camels sit to rest in an open area. When night fell and they slept, the woman went to one of the camels, but it made a noise. She came to the she-camel ‘Adhba’, and it did not make a noise; it was a very obedient she-camel. The woman rode on this she-camel and came to Madinah. She made a vow that if Allah granted her deliverance, she would sacrifice this she-camel. When she reached Madinah and the people recognized the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) she-camel, they said, “This is ‘Adhba’, the she-camel of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).” The narrator states: Then the woman was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was informed about her vow. He said, “You have given a very bad recompense; there is no vow in disobedience, and there is no vow regarding something a person does not own.”
