حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ الْمُبَارَكِيُّ بِالْمُبَارَكَةِ ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ شَاهِينَ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ زَوْجَ بَرِيرَةَ كَانَ عَبْدًا ، يُقَالُ لَهُ : مُغِيثٌ ، كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ يَطُوفُ خَلْفَهَا وَيَبْكِي ، وَدُمُوعُهُ تَسِيلُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلْعَبَّاسِ : " يَا عَبَّاسُ ، أَلا تَعْجَبُ مِنْ شِدَّةِ حُبِّ مُغِيثٍ بَرِيرَةَ ، وَمِنْ شِدَّةِ بُغْضِ بَرِيرَةَ مُغِيثًا ؟ " ، فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَوْ أَرْجَعْتِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ أَبُو وَلَدِكِ " ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، تَأْمُرُنِي بِهِ ؟ قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا شَافِعٌ " ، قَالَتْ : فَلا حَاجَةَ لِي فِيهِ .
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The husband of Lady Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her) was a slave, and his name was Mughith. I can still picture the scene: that man was walking behind the woman, weeping, and his tears were flowing down his beard. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Abbas! Are you not amazed at how much Mughith loves Barirah, and how much Barirah dislikes Mughith?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the woman: "You should keep your marriage with him, for he is the father of your children." The woman asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Are you commanding me?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "I am only interceding." So the woman said: "Then I have no need to maintain a relationship with him."
