Hadith 2901

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُهَلَّبِ: أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ قَالَ فِي امْرَأَةٍ وَأَبَوَيْنِ: "لِلْمَرْأَةِ الرُّبُعُ، وَلِلْأُمِّ ثُلُثُ مَا بَقِيَ".
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding the issue of wife and parents: The wife will receive one-fourth (a quarter) and the mother will receive one-third of what remains.
Brief Explanation

From this athar, the aforementioned issue which Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib rahimahullah mentioned from Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Thabit radi Allahu anhu is supported. It should be clear that Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Thabit radi Allahu anhu and the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan radi Allahu anhu, both were Companions who were Imams in the knowledge of inheritance laws (ilm al-fara’id).
