Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I was sitting in the (Prophet’s) Mosque and among the Muhajirun, the poor people were sitting in a circle, when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and sat with them. I also joined them. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: “Give glad tidings to the poor Muhajirun that will make their faces happy: the poor Muhajirun will enter Paradise forty years before the wealthy.” Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I saw their faces began to shine so much that I wished and desired to be among them.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2877)
From this hadith, the virtue of the poor (ghuraba), needy (fuqara), and destitute (masakin) is established, that they will enter Paradise before the wealthy (aghniya), because they did not possess wealth and riches for which they would have to give account. This is why it is mentioned in the Noble Qur’an: your wealth and your children are a trial for you.
However, the person who, despite being wealthy, spends his wealth in the correct manner, avoids extravagance and wastefulness, spends in the way of Allah, and fulfills zakat and charity (sadaqat), his rank and virtue are also, in their own right, very great. The grateful rich (ghani shakir) has superiority over the patient poor (faqir sabir).
