Hadith 2737

Bahz bin Hakim narrated from his father, who narrated from his grandfather, that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: “Woe to the person who lies to make people laugh, woe to him, woe to him.”

Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadith 2736)
The meaning of "wayl" is ruin and destruction; furthermore, "wayl" is also the name of a pit in Hell. Whoever fabricates false stories, tales, or jokes merely to make people laugh, there is a severe warning for him in the Hereafter. Lying is blameworthy in every situation, and the curse of Allah is upon the liar.
