Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty is with the debtor until he pays off his debt, as long as the debt is not for something that Allah Almighty dislikes." The narrator said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say to his treasurer: Go and get a loan for me, because I do not like to spend even a single night in such a way that Allah Almighty is not with me after I have heard this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2630)

From this hadith, it is understood that whoever takes a loan for a good deed—such as helping the poor, students, travelers, or for providing food—Allah’s abundant grace and kindness is with him.

In another narration, it is stated that whoever intends to repay his debt, Allah makes its repayment easy for him. Although there is encouragement to take a loan in this context, as it is reported that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja‘far radi Allahu anhu used to take loans so that Allah’s mercy would remain with him.

However, as much as possible, it is better to avoid and not take loans, as the severe warnings regarding debt have already been mentioned in previous pages from authentic ahadith.

Also, in this hadith, the meaning of Allah’s “ma‘iyyat” (being with) is just as He said: «﴿إِنَّ اللّٰهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِيْنَ﴾» “Allah is with those who are patient,” meaning His grace and attention are with that righteous servant.

This absolutely does not mean that the blessed Essence of Allah is with the debtor, the patient, or other righteous servants; this is a misconception of the Sufis.

Allah Ta‘ala is above the Mighty Throne (‘Arsh) and from there He manages the affairs of the entire world and all of creation; He sees everything, hears everything, knows everything: «﴿لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ﴾ [الشورىٰ : 11] وَاللّٰهُ أَعْلَمُ وَعِلْمُهُ أتم».
