Hadith 2561

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah forgive Ghifar, and may Allah grant safety to Aslam, and the tribe of ‘Usayyah—they disobeyed Allah and His Messenger."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2560)

The people of the tribe of Ghifar, in the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), used to steal and rob the wealth of the pilgrims. After embracing Islam, Allah Ta'ala forgave their sins. As for the people of the tribe of 'Usayyah, they are those who, after making a covenant with the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), acted treacherously and martyred the people of Bi'r Ma'unah.

Aslam, Ghifar, Muzaynah, Juhaynah, and Ashja' were major tribes. Due to their acceptance of Islam, the smaller tribes also, of their own accord, entered into Islam; for this reason as well, their virtue is further increased.
