Hadith 2549

Abu Hind Bajali, who was among the righteous predecessors, said that people mentioned migration (hijrah) in the presence of Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was on his royal throne. He said: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Migration will not cease until repentance ceases," three times the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this: "And repentance will not cease until the sun rises from the west." (That is, until the Day of Judgment arrives.)

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2548)

The meaning of this hadith is that just as the door of repentance (tawbah) remains open until the Day of Judgment, likewise the door of migration (hijrah) also remains open; that is, a person may migrate from the abode of disbelief (dar al-kufr) to the abode of Islam (dar al-Islam) in any state of compulsion until the Day of Judgment, so that he may freely comply with Islamic laws and acts of worship.
