Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We live in the land of the People of the Book, so can we eat from their utensils? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If you live in such a land as you have described, then do not eat from their utensils, except if you have no alternative (i.e., you are compelled and cannot find any other utensils). If you have no alternative, then wash the utensil and then eat from it.”

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2534)
It is not permissible to eat from the utensils of non-Muslims. If one is compelled and no other utensils are available, then it is necessary to wash and thoroughly purify them well; only then can those utensils be permissible for use by Muslims. Otherwise, it is not permissible to use their utensils, because there is a lack of care regarding purity and cleanliness, and unlawful (non-halal) things are used by them.
