It is narrated from Umm al-Mu’minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was eating food with six of his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) when a Bedouin came and devoured all the food in just two bites. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If he had mentioned the name of Allah before eating, this food would have been sufficient for all of you. Therefore, when any of you begins to eat, let him mention the name of Allah (i.e., start eating with ‘Bismillah’), and if he forgets to say ‘Bismillah’ at the beginning, then (when he remembers or is reminded) let him say «بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ أَوَّلَهٗ وَآخِرَهٗ».”
