Hadith 2014

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade al-mujaththama. Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: al-mujaththama refers to al-masbura, that is, to strike a tied animal with an arrow, bullet, or stone.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2013)
From all these ahadith, it is understood that to strike any animal without purpose, to toy with its life, or to kill it by tormenting it is a very reprehensible act, and there is strict prohibition of this in Islam.
Furthermore, such an animal that is killed after being tied up is both a sin and not lawful (halal) to consume.
This is the pure system of mercy in Islam, in which even mercy towards animals is taught.
Show kindness to the inhabitants of the earth,
Allah will be merciful to you from above the Throne.
