Hadith 2010

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a woman (slave girl) used to graze the goats of Al-Ka'b bin Malik on the Sila' mountain. One day, she feared that one of the goats was about to die, so she took a stone (which was sharp) and slaughtered the dying goat with it. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed about the woman slaughtering with a stone, he (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed them to eat it: (meaning it was lawful and its meat was also lawful).

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2009)
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has deduced from this that an animal slaughtered by the hand of a woman or a slave-girl is lawful (halal) to eat. Furthermore, if a stone is sharp-edged, it is permissible to slaughter with it, as is mentioned in a narration of Sahih Bukhari (5503): «مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَ ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللّٰهِ عَلَيْهِ فَكُلْ ..... When people said, “We do not have a knife, how should we slaughter?” the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam replied, “Whatever (sharp-edged) thing causes blood to flow and Allah’s name has been mentioned over it, you may eat from what is slaughtered with it, but do not slaughter with a nail or a tooth, for the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians and the tooth is considered a bone, and it is prohibited to slaughter with bone.”
