Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 2002) There is also clarification of this in the narration of Sahih Bukhari. "Fara‘" refers to the first offspring of a she-camel; in the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), people used to slaughter it in the names of their idols. And "‘Atirah" is that sacrifice which they used to perform in the month of Rajab. Maulana Raz rahimahullah states: Among the ignorant common folk of Muslims, this custom still continues under the name of the ritual of filling "kunda" (large clay pots) in the month of Rajab. In some places, during the last ten days of Rajab, the festival of filling kunda is celebrated with great attention. Some people call it the "standing offering" (khare pair ki niyaz) and eat it while standing; all these are newly invented matters (muhdathat), innovations of misguidance (bid‘at-e-dalalah), and (in the aforementioned hadith) there is prohibition of this. We pray to Allah Ta‘ala to guide Muslims to avoid such absurdities. Ameen.
