Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him to perform the sacrifice (or to supervise at the time of slaughter) and that I should distribute everything of the sacrificial camel—its meat, its skin, its saddlecloths—and that I should not give anything from it as payment for slaughtering.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1978) That is, the butcher’s wage should not be given from it (the sacrificial animal), rather it should be given separately. From this hadith, it is understood that the skin, covering, meat, etc. of the sacrificial animal should all be distributed; however, there is no harm in taking and keeping some meat for one’s own consumption. Similarly, the skin of the sacrificial animal, after tanning, can also be used at home, but it is absolutely impermissible to give the skin as the butcher’s wage. The purpose of this is that every part of the sacrificial animal should remain for the sake of Allah; giving it as a wage is as if selling it. (Wahidi). It should be clear that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sacrificed one hundred camels, of which he slaughtered sixty-three with his own hand, and the remainder were slaughtered by Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu. From all of them, a piece of meat was taken and cooked in a pot, and the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Sayyiduna Ali, and the other noble Companions radi Allahu anhum partook of it.
