Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadiths 1843 to 1845)
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik radi Allahu anhu narrated that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam assumed the state of ihram after the prayer and recited the talbiyah.
From this, it is established that the ihram was assumed after the Zuhr prayer. Also, it is evident that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam did not perform any specific prayer for the ihram, rather, he assumed ihram after the obligatory prayer. Therefore, it is not correct to perform a prayer with the intention of ihram at the time of assuming ihram. However, if one enters the mosque, two units (rak‘ah) of Tahiyyat al-Masjid may be performed.
Furthermore, these hadiths establish that ihram should be assumed from the miqat.
There is a difference in the narrations regarding the recitation of the talbiyah, and in Sahih Muslim as well, there are various narrations regarding where the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam assumed ihram. Some narrators state it was from the Masjid Dhu’l-Hulayfah, some say it was when he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam exited the mosque and mounted his camel, and some say it was when he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam reached the elevated ground of Bayda’ that he assumed ihram and recited the talbiyah. This difference is, in reality, not a contradiction, because the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam may have recited the talbiyah at all three places, and some of the noble Companions may not have heard it at the first or second place, while others may not have heard it at the first but did at the second, so they assumed that ihram was assumed at that particular place (Wahidi).
