Brief Explanation
(Explanation of Hadiths 1819 to 1821)
The virtue of Laylat al-Qadr has already been mentioned above. The scholars have differed regarding which night it is. From the aforementioned narrations, it is understood that it is in the last ten nights, or at the very least, in the last seven nights. The correct view is that one should spend the entire last ten nights in night vigil and worship. Some scholars also say that the odd nights should never be neglected. Laylat al-Qadr occurs every year and it is never fixed to a specific day or date; rather, it keeps changing. In the time of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), Laylat al-Qadr occurred on the twenty-seventh night, regarding which he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) mentioned some signs: that there would be rain during the night, shooting stars would not be seen that night, and the sun’s rays would not be intense or scorching.
Some people consider this night to be the fifteenth night of Sha’ban, which is absolutely contrary to the evidences and facts.
