Hadith 1747

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey (the expedition of conquest) when he saw a crowd and noticed that people were shading someone. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: "What is the matter?" They replied: "He is a fasting person." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Fasting while on a journey is not an act of righteousness (not a good deed)."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1746)

From this hadith, those people have taken evidence who consider breaking the fast (iftar) during travel to be necessary, and in opposition to them, the scholars have said that the meaning of this hadith is that for the one who does not have the strength to fast during travel, it is not a good thing for him to fast while traveling.
