Hadith 1611

Sayyiduna Aws bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The best day among your days is the day of Friday. On this day Adam (peace be upon him) was created, on this day the Trumpet will be blown and people will fall unconscious. So send abundant blessings upon me on this day, for your blessings are presented to me." A man asked: "O Messenger of Allah! How will our blessings be presented to you when you will have decayed into dust?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1610)

From this hadith, the virtue of the day of Jumu‘ah (Friday) is established, and it is known that the Day of Resurrection will occur on this day. Furthermore, on the day of Jumu‘ah, the salutations (salat and salam) of the Ummah upon the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are especially presented to him. Therefore, it has been commanded that one should recite salat (salutations) upon him abundantly on this day, and for salat, only those words should be used which are established from authentic ahadith. The best is the salat recited in prayer, or one may say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ وَ سَلِّمْ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُوْلِكَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِيْن».

And to say «الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُوْلَ اللّٰه», or for all the worshippers to collectively chant such slogans, all of this is innovation (bid‘ah), and every innovation is misguidance which leads to the Hellfire.

As for the matter of the life of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam after death, then indeed he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and the other Prophets and martyrs (shuhada) are alive—there is no doubt in this. But what kind of life this is, no one has knowledge of it. Allah Ta‘ala’s statement is: «﴿بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ وَلَكِنْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ﴾ [البقرة : 154]» “They are alive, but you do not perceive their life.”

Therefore, one should have this belief that the statement of Allah Ta‘ala and His Messenger is true, but we cannot comprehend or understand what kind of life this is. There is no evidence that, like worldly life, they hear and see at all times.

And Allah knows best.
