Sayyiduna Abu Ju’d Damri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever neglects Jumu’ah out of laziness, Allah Almighty will seal his heart.”
Hadith Referenceسنن دارمي / من كتاب الصللاة / 1610
The meaning of «طَبَعَاللّٰهُعَلَىٰقَلْبِهِ» is that Allah, the Exalted, will prevent his heart from accepting goodness and guidance.
In this hadith, the punishment for missing one Friday (Jumu‘ah) prayer is that Allah, the Exalted, seals the heart. In most narrations, this punishment is mentioned for missing three Friday prayers.
The meaning of «ثُمَّلَيَكُونُنَّمِنَالْغَافِلِيْنَ» is that heedlessness will overcome him, and the taste and eagerness for worship will depart from his heart.
Some scholars have said that hypocrisy (nifaq) will enter his heart (the one who misses three Friday prayers), and the light of faith (iman) will depart. A person once asked Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas radi Allahu anhuma: “What do you say about a person who fasts during the day and worships throughout the night, but does not participate in Friday (Jumu‘ah) and congregational (jama‘ah) prayers?” He replied: “He is from the people of Hellfire.” He gave this answer three times. Jumu‘ah is an individual obligation (fard ‘ayn), and attending it is necessary for every Muslim. The accepted servant of Allah is the one from whom none of the Sunnahs of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam are missed. How can someone who abandons an obligation (fard) be considered accepted? Rather, he is (rejected).
