Hadith 1608

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I met Ka‘b al-Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him), so I began to narrate the ahadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he began to tell me about the Torah, until when the mention of Friday came, I said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is an hour in it during which, if any Muslim asks Allah for something good while praying, Allah grants him that thing."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1607)

On the day of Jumu‘ah (Friday), there is an hour in which if a Muslim servant attains it, his good wish will be fulfilled. In some narrations, it is mentioned that he should ask (make supplication) during prayer, and in some narrations, the phrase "qā’imun yusallī" (standing in prayer) is not present; rather, there is mention of general supplication. The narration containing "yusallī" proves that any supplication can especially be made during prayer, particularly in prostration (sujūd). If it is the day of Jumu‘ah and a Muslim attains that hour, then it is pure felicity.

The scholars (ʿulamā’) have differed regarding which specific time this is in which the acceptance of supplication is most likely. In Fatḥ al-Bārī and other works, approximately 45 opinions are mentioned. In some narrations, it is stated that this hour is when the imam begins the Jumu‘ah prayer. In some narrations, it is the time from ʿAṣr (afternoon) until Maghrib (sunset), and many scholars have given preference to this view. Thus, some of Allah’s righteous servants, both young and old, here in Saudi Arabia, sit from the ʿAṣr prayer until Maghrib, engaged in recitation (tilāwah), remembrance (dhikr), seeking forgiveness (istighfār), repentance (tawbah), and supplication (munājāt).
