Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) said: Before the pulpit was constructed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to stand by the trunk of a date-palm tree and deliver the sermon. Then, when the pulpit was made (and he moved towards it), that trunk began to cry with a thin sound until we heard its voice. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on it, and its sound stopped.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1600)
The next narration, and in Ibn Majah, it is stated: If the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had not done so, that trunk would have continued to weep until the Day of Resurrection. This is a marvel of Allah Ta'ala that, among inanimate objects, trees, and animals, He grants the power of speech to whomever He wills. And this is a testimony to the truthfulness of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and a divine miracle, that out of love for the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, the wooden trunk wept at this separation.
