Hadith 1564

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the sun and the moon are not eclipsed because of anyone's death; they are two signs among the signs of Allah. Therefore, when you see this, stand up and pray."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1563)

In the era of ignorance (Jahiliyyah), people held the belief that an eclipse brought about death or calamity upon the earth. It so happened that in Rabi' al-Awwal or the month of Ramadan in the 10th year of Hijrah, a solar eclipse occurred, and on the same day, the son of the Messenger of Guidance, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, Ibrahim, passed away. So the people said that this eclipse was due to the death of Ibrahim.

The Messenger of Guidance, Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, delivered a sermon and eradicated this belief, making it clear that the stars have no effect on human life.

Even today, if any Muslim holds such a belief, it is entirely contrary to the Islamic creed.
