Hadith 1495

It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakrah that his father (Abu Bakrah) saw some people performing the Duha prayer and said: These people are performing a prayer which neither the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performed nor did his common companions.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 1493 to 1495)

These two narrations have been interpreted by the scholars as indicating the lack of knowledge on the part of Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu, meaning that the non-existence of something cannot be established merely because someone has not seen or known about it. Whereas from the narration of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, it is explicitly understood that this is a bequest (wasiyyah) of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, which is sufficient as proof. And in Sahih Muslim, Book of the Prayer of Travelers, Chapter: The Recommendation of the Duha Prayer, it is mentioned that Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha said that when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would return from a journey, he would perform the Duha (forenoon) prayer.

In another narration, it is mentioned that he would perform four rak‘ahs of the Duha prayer.
