Hadith 1404

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Make it a habit to pray in your homes, for indeed the best prayer of a person, after the obligatory congregational prayer, is the one he performs in his house."

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1403)

For men, it is more virtuous to perform the obligatory (fard) prayers in congregation at the mosque, and it is more virtuous to perform voluntary (nafl) prayers at home. For women, the best prayer is that which is performed at home.

In an authentic narration, it is stated: "Do not make your homes like graveyards," meaning that prayer is not performed in graveyards, and a house in which neither men nor women perform prayer is like a graveyard.

However, if a woman wishes to go to the mosque for prayer, she may do so, and, insha Allah, she will certainly receive the reward of praying in congregation.

As has already been mentioned in «باب التغليس فى الفجر» and «باب النهي عن منع النساء من المساجد», Hadith number (1312).
