أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْجُمَحِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، مِثْلَهُ.
With this chain also, Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) similar to the (aforementioned narration).
Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Ahadith 1400 to 1403)
If the imam makes a mistake during the prayer, men should say "Subhan Allah" and women should strike the back of one hand on the other so that the imam becomes aware. In some versions, «التصفيح للنساء» is also mentioned, which means to strike one hand upon the other, or to strike the palm upon the palm.
Imam Qastallani rahimahullah has written that if clapping is done as a form of play, the prayer will become invalid.
