Hadith 1267

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is nothing between a servant and shirk or disbelief except abandoning the prayer." Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Whoever abandons the prayer without excuse or reason, it will be said about him that there is disbelief with him, and it will not be said that he has become a disbeliever.

Brief Explanation
(Commentary on Hadith 1266)

That is, the thing which distinguishes between a believer and a disbeliever is the prayer (salah), and if one abandons the prayer, then this distinction is erased and there remains no difference between a believer and a disbeliever.

In an authentic hadith, it is stated that whoever deliberately and intentionally abandons the prayer has become a disbeliever.

May Allah Ta'ala grant all Muslims the ability to perform the prayer.

Ameen.
