Hadith 2768

- " لا تزكوا أنفسكم، فإن الله هو أعلم بالبرة منكن والفاجرة، سميها زينب ".
Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata says: I went to Sayyida Zainab Abu Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), and she asked me the name of my sister. I said: Her name is "Barrah." She said: Change this name, because when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married Sayyida Zainab bint Jahsh, her name was "Barrah," and he changed it and named her Zainab. (The incident is as Sayyida Zainab narrated:) When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) married Sayyida Umm Salama, he went to her, and my name was "Barrah." When he called me Barrah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Do not ascribe purity to yourselves; Allah knows best who among you is righteous and who is wicked. Name her Zainab." Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Now she is Zainab (not Barrah). I asked her: My name? She said: You should also change it in the same way as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did, that is, name her Zainab.
