Hadith 2136

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) instructed a man that when he lies down on his bed, he should say: O Allah! You have created my soul and You will cause it to die; to You alone belongs its death and its life. If You grant it life, then protect it, and if You cause it to die, then forgive it. O Allah! I ask You for well-being. That man asked Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): Did you hear these words from your father Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)? He replied: I heard them from someone greater than Umar, that is, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
