(238) بَابُ الزَّجْرِ عَنِ الْإِشَارَةِ بِالْيَدِ يَمِينَا وَشِمَالًا عِنْدَ السَّلَامِ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ.
238 Chapter: Prohibition of Gesturing with the Hand Right and Left when Saying Salam in Prayer.
Hadith 733
نا بُنْدَارٌ ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مِسْعَرٌ . ح وَنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ مِسْعَرِ بْنِ كِدَامٍ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ أَيْضًا ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الطَّنَافِسِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ . ح وَحَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قُلْنَا بِأَيْدِينَا السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَمِينًا وَشِمَالا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا لِي أَرَى أَيْدِيَكُمْ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ خَيْلٍ شُمُسٍ ، لِيَسْكُنْ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الصَّلاةِ " . هَذَا حَدِيثُ بُنْدَارٍ ، وَقَالَ آخَرُونَ : " أَمَا يَكْفِي أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ ، عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ " ، إِلا أَنَّ ابْنَ خَشْرَمٍ قَالَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ : ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ مَنْ عَنِ يَمِينِهِ ، وَمَنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ : عَلَى أَخِيهِ مَنْ عَنِ يَمِينِهِ ، وَمَنْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ ، قَالَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ فِي حَدِيثِ يَزِيدَ : كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قُلْنَا : السَّلامُ عَلَى اللَّهِ ، السَّلامُ عَلَى جَبْرَائِيلَ ، السَّلامُ عَلَى مِيكَائِيلَ ، وَأَشَارَ أَبُو خَالِدٍ يَعْنِي يَزِيدَ بْنِ هَارُونَ بِيَدِهِ ، فَرَمَى بِهَا يَمِينًا وَشِمَالا ، قَالَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ : ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ ، يَعْنِي نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when we used to pray behind the Prophet (peace be upon him), we would say « السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ » to our right and left or gesture with our hands. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "What is the matter that I see your hands (moving) as if they are the tails of unruly horses? Each of you should remain calm in prayer." This is the narration of Bundar. Other narrators have reported these words: "Is it not sufficient for any one of you to place his hand on his thigh and then turn his greeting of peace to his right and left?" Ibn Khushram has narrated in his version: "Then turn his greeting of peace to his right and to his left." In Waki’s narration: "Then say salam to his brother on his right and to his brother on his left." Janab Hasan Muhammad has reported in Yazid’s hadith these words: When we used to pray behind the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), we would say, « السَّلَامُ عَلی اللہ » 'Peace be upon Allah', « السَّلَامُ عَلی جِبرَائِیل » 'Peace be upon Jibreel', « السَّلَامُ عَلي مِيكَائِيل » 'Peace be upon Mika’il', and Abu Khalid bin Harun gestured to the right and left with his hand.
