And the evidence that the rikaz is not the burial of the Jahiliyyah is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him—if this report from him is established—has differentiated between what is found in the ancient ruins and between the rikaz, and has made obligatory in both of them the fifth.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man from the tribe of Muzaynah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: "What do you say about something found in a populated road or inhabited settlement?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for one year, then if its owner comes, hand it over to him; otherwise, you may use it. Then, if its claimant comes at any time in your life, give it to him. And whatever wealth is found in a deserted road or uninhabited settlement, pay one-fifth (khums) as zakat from that wealth and from mines."
