Hadith 2086
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلاءِ , حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ , حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي يَزِيدَ , وَأَتْقَنْتُهُ مِنْهُ , سُئِلَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ , فَقَالَ : " مَا عَلِمْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَامَ يَوْمًا يَتَحَرَّى فَضْلَهُ إِلا عَاشُورَاءَ ، وَهَذَا شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ "
Ubaidullah bin Yazid reports that Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked about the fasting of Ashura, so he replied: I do not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) observed the fast of any day, seeking its excellence, except for the fast of Ashura and the fasts of the month of Ramadan.
