It is narrated from Ishaq bin Abdullah that the governor of Madinah Munawwarah, Walid bin Utbah, sent him to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said to him, "O my nephew, go and ask him how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed (the supplication and prayer) for rain on the day he prayed for rain with the people." Ishaq says that I presented myself before Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). I asked, "O Abu al-Abbas, on the day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for rain, how did he perform the supplication and prayer for rain?" He replied, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out with utmost humility and simplicity, and he performed the prayer for rain in the same manner as he would perform the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha prayers."
