(556) بَابُ التَّرَتُّلِ فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ إِذَا صَلَّى الْمَرْءُ جَالِسًاThe chapter on reciting slowly when praying while sitting
Hadith 1242
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَنَّ مَالِكًا حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، قَالَتْ : مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ جَالِسًا ، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ بِعَامٍ ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ جَالِسًا ، فَيَقْرَأُ السُّورَةَ فَيُرَتِّلُهَا ، حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَطْوَلَ مِنْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا " . لَمْ يَقُلِ ابْنُ هَاشِمٍ : فِي سُبْحَتِهِ
Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that I did not see the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) performing his voluntary prayers sitting, until when he was in the period of one year before his death, he (peace be upon him) started performing his voluntary prayers sitting. Whenever he (peace be upon him) would recite a surah, he would recite it with such pauses and deliberation that it would become longer than the longest surah. Ibn Hisham did not mention the words "in his voluntary prayer."
