Hadith 5308

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانُوا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِذَا عَقُّوا عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ ، خَضَبُوا قُطْنَةً بِدَمِ الْعَقِيقَةِ ، فَإِذَا حَلَقُوا رَأْسَ الصَّبِيِّ ، وَضَعُوهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اجْعَلُوا مَكَانَ الدَّمِ خَلُوقًا " .
Sayyida Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: In the time of ignorance, it was customary that when people performed the ‘Aqiqah for a child, they would soak cotton with the blood of the ‘Aqiqah, and when they shaved the child’s head, they would place the cotton on the child’s head. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Instead of blood, you should apply khaluq (a specific type of fragrance).
