Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates the statement of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me as a messenger (i.e., governor). I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! You are sending me, and I am a young man. I will be asked about judgments, and I do not understand what I will answer. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no other way; either I must go or you must go. Sayyiduna Ali says: I said, if there is no other way, then I will go. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You go and recite it before the people. Allah Almighty will keep your tongue firm. He will keep your heart steadfast upon guidance. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: People will bring their cases to you. When two parties come to you, do not decide in favor of either party until you have heard the words of the other party, because this is more deserving that you will know who is upon the truth.
