ذكر البيان بأن قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم ضالة المسلم أراد به بعض الضال لا الكل-Clarifying that the Prophet’s statement about a lost Muslim property refers to some lost items, not all.
Hadith 4888

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَهْطٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرٍ ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّا نَجِدُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ هَوَامِي مِنَ الإِبِلِ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ضَالَّةُ الْمُسْلِمِ حَرَقُ النَّارِ " .
Mutarrif narrates from his father: Some people from Banu Amir came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), we found some camels on the way. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: The lost property of Muslims is a flame of Hell.
